All About Mrs. Whitis
About being a teacher
This year is my 26th year of teaching. I graduated from Murray State University and began my teaching career at Reidland Elementary where I taught kindergarten, first, and second grades. After having my son in 2003, I transferred to Lone Oak Elementary where I taught fifth grade for 6 years, second grade for 4 years, and am now in my 7th year in third grade.
About my family
I am married to Tim Whitis, who also is a teacher at McCracken County High School. We have a son, Nate, that is in eleventh grade. He plays basketball and enjoys helping us with our concrete business. We have another member of the family in the shape of a black lab. Her name is Bella, and we are all smitten with her, even though she keeps our back porch absolutely a GIGANTIC mess! We live out in the country and love living the 'farm' life.
What I do besides teach
I have many interests and hobbies. I LOVE to decorate my home and am a freelance photographer. I also spend a lot of time with the McCracken County High School volleyball team. My husband is the head coach, and I am the stats keeper for our varsity team. I especially LOVE to read and always have a book going. My favorite thing to do is to travel. Our favorite place is the Florida Keys. Key Largo is our second home! We hope to have a permanent residence there someday! All of us are also concrete finishers and enjoy working in that aspect during our time off.
